TELUS has announced that they will soon be releasing the Motorola Backflip with MOTOBLUR Android Smartphone later this year. Yesterday Motorola announced that they would be bringing the Backflip, DEXT & QUENCH to Canada early this year. We don't have price points or a firm release date at this time but will update as we know more.

HTC Hero getting Android 2.1 for mid-March!

Engadget is reporting that the HTC Hero will be getting the Android 2.1 update in mid-March. TELUS has not confirmed a release date for the update but we hope to hear something soon. The HTC Hero will also add a new Friend Stream widget that aggregates user updates across services. The Google Nexus One & Moto Droid have both recently been updated to Android 2.1. The Moto CLIQ is also expected to be updated to Android 2.1.

TELUS Motorola Milestone Available February 18th

Best Buy Canada has just launched their new web site and with it they've leaked the Motorola Milestone release date of February 18th. You can see a screenshot of Best Buy's pre-order deal below:

We think that the Motorola Milestone will be a big hit on the TELUS network. It will be the only Android 2.0 Phone in Canada until Rogers releases the Sony Ericsson X10. The Motrola Droid (CDMA equivalent of the Milestone) has been getting great reviews on the Verizon network so far.

Thank you for contacting Tphones.ca. I'm sorry but I'm not 100% sure I understand what you want to do. Here is what I assume you are looking to do:

1. You currently have a TELUS cell phone and TELUS My Talk plan

2. You have gotten your hands on the Motorola Q and want it to replace your current phone while staying on the same plan.

If the above is True then all you need to do is phone TELUS and ask to switch your old phone to your new phone. They should be able to do this for you at no cost.

You will need to re-enter all of your phone information.

With your invoice for December you advertise a free 2010 Telus calendar. I can not locate your web site to order the calendar.

I am thinking about buying my dad a blackberry for xmas as he dropped his phone in the toilet today :( he has about a year and a half left on his plan with telus, and i was wondering how that effects the price of a new blackberry. Or do I have to buy the phone at full price as if it were with no contract?

A) Buying a new BlackBerry (if you so choose) @ the No Contract Price
B) Buying a new BlackBerry and extending his contract another year (I don't think you can exceed 3 years)

What I would probably recommend instead is to check Craigslist in your area or eBay for TELUS BlackBerry phones. Often times you'll find people are moving on to new iterations and therefore selling their old phones at reasonable prices.

Once you acquire one of these phones he would just need to phone in to TELUS and ask that he switch over to the new phone.

Rogers can no longer claim 'most reliable network'

On November 24th the Supreme Court of British Columbia granted TELUS a temporary injuction against Rogers regarding their "Most Reliable Network" claims.

TELUS and Bell launched their new HSPA network on November 4th that they claim negated Rogers claims of having both the fastest and most reliable network. When TELUS's request that Rogers drop the claims was rebuked TELUS took Rogers to competition court. In court Rogers acknoweldged that the new TELUS & Bell network removed the speed advantage that Rogers had held for so many years and agreed to take down all claims.

As of November 30th Rogers and all of it's affiliated have pulled all claims of having the Fastest & Most Reliable Network. Rogers has now switched to being "Canada's Reliable Wireless Network".

TELUS sues Rogers over Fastest Network Claims

TELUS has launched legal action against Rogers over their claims that they operate "Canada's fastest network". TELUS launched their new HSPA+ network (with the help of Bell) on November 5th. They now feel that Rogers claims are now false and are therefore seeking an end to their advertising and damages.

Rogers launched their "Canada's fastest network" advertising campaign in 2007. TELUS feels that these claims are now inaccurate since the launch of their new network.

TELUS is seeking a declaration from Rogers that its advertisements breached Canada's Competition Act, in addition to injunction from distributing the ads, damages and compensation.

Palm Pre & Pixi coming to TELUS in Early 2010

TELUS will be bringing the Palm Pre and Palm Pixi to their Smartphone line-up in January 2010. Bell has held the exclusive rights to the Palm Pre since July of this year but these rights are set to expire at the end of 2009.

Turn your mobile phone into a tree

TELUS has started a phone recycling program whereby you can bring your cell phone to any TELUS store and a tree will be planted on behalf of TreeCanada. A copy of their advertisment can be found below.

A number of Canadian companies have started similar recylcing programs including BestBuy and FutureShop. They are encouraging to bring your electronics in and they'll recycle them. There are however limitations to their program as they will only accept Cell Phones, Batteries, CD & MP3 Players, Portable DVD Players, Ink cartridges and CDs.

TELUS has launched the LG Venus, their latest cell phone. It is currently available until May 2, 2008 for $99.99 IF you sign up for a $15 per month SPARK bundle and keep it for at least 3 months.

Yesterday TELUS launched Koodo Mobile, a new wireless brand into Canada's wireless market. They are currently offering 3 different cell phones with a build your own rate plan approach. It can only be assumed that this is TELUS's way of competing with the likes of Virgin Mobile, Solo Mobile and Fido.
